Minfos Compatible Server

When do I need a Server?

The reality is that every pharmacy has a server (in fact, they often have multiple). A server is a computer that distributes a service. For example, most stores will have a location for their packing database (such as Webster) – this computer is your webster server.

This logic is repeatable (DD Books, EFTPOS etc). The purpose of a large physical server is to centralise and build redundancies around the failings of smaller cheaper PCs. So, when your EFTPOS “Server” is off, you have no EFTPOS everywhere; less than ideal.

The decision a store owner needs to make is whether there is a cost benefit in centralising these services on a Dedicated Server or a Shared Server.

Much like a car, most of us will go from A to B, without ever hitting top speed, or using all the features. But the decision we make is whether the safety features are of value, or will the extra cargo be handy one day? Both will do the same job 99% of the time, but in times of accident or tragedy those extra benefits are more than a nice to have.
